Curriculum Map 1 : August-October (mid)

State Standards(OAS):

-Compare and contrast autobiographies/biographies

-Be able to identify the various genres in writing and tell the characteristics of each.

-Use short stories and novels to focus on vocabulary, comprehension, and literary elements.

-Be able to use the plot chart to organize the story elements and give text examples for each one.

-Use short stories and novels to focus on vocabulary, comprehension, and literary elements.

Curriculum Map 3 : January-March (mid)

-Novel: Winterdance (While reading, follow the actual “Iditarod” race---starts in March.)

-Be able to identify the plot parts in the novol above, compare and contrast the characters in the story, and address themes in the text.

-Be able to identify the various forms of figurative language and use them in pieces of writing.

-Use short stories and novels to focus on vocabulary, comprehension, and literary elements.

-Recognize archetypes in the reading material from these reading selections.

-Be able to give examples of each archetype from books or movies. Apply these archetypes when develpoing characters in written stories.

-Use short stories and novels to focus on vocabulary, comprehension, and literary elements.
