Units or Chapters Covered:  Para empezar(to begin); Chapter 1

Unit Targets: Student will be able to:

Greet people at different times of the day

Make introductions to others.

Begin using numbers

Tell time

Describe weather conditions

Assessments:  Vocabulary tests – spelling and definition

                       Comprehensible conversation – pronunciation

                       Read short information.

 

Unit Questions:  Will pertain to greeting each other, What is the time? and What’s the weather like?

Materials Required: Textbook, Spanish binder, pencil, paper.

Units or Chapters:  Chapter 1

Communication: Listen and read about activities people like and don’t like to do

Write about likes and dislikes

Talk about favorite activities.

Adjectives:  Learn adjectives to describe people and classes.

Learn about adjective placement in writing and speaking.

Cultural: Describe dances and music from  various Spanish-speaking countries

               Study the history and traditions of Mexico.

Assessments: Vocabulary tests – spelling and definition

                      Comprehensible conversation – pronunciation

                      Reading and writing for comprehension

Unit questions: What do you like to do?  What are you like? What are your friends and family like?  What are you like?  What are your friends and family like. 

Materials required: Spanish I textbook, three-ring binder, paper and pencil.

Chapter 1B -I am 

Talk about personality traits

Communication:  Describe self and others

Cultural:  Day of the Dead  – Learn about celebration of remembering a loved one.

Special projects:  Traditional paper cutting; coloring skulls, flowers and candles for altar decor

Unit questions:  When is Day of the Dead? How is it obserserved? 

What are you like?  What are your friends like?

Materials required:  Textbook, tissue paper, scissors

State Standards: (OAS)

Unit Targets:  Student will be able to:

Talk about school schedules and subjects.

Discuss what students do during the day.

Ask and tell who is doing the action.

Special Projects:  Music: Remember me from movie Coco in reference to Day of the Dead.

Understand and conjugate verbs : to be

Unit questions:  What are you like?  What is your class schedule?  What do you like to do in your classes?

Assessments:  Vocabulary tests, verb conjugation in present tense, speaking actvities.

Materials required: Textbook, spanish binder

Talk about class schedules

Describe and discuss classes.

Learn conjugation of regular verbs. Subject verb agreement

Unit questions:  What do you do in your classes?  What is your class schedule like?  What are your classes like?

Assessments: Vocabulary tets, verb conjugation quizzes, speaking activities.

Materials required:  Textbook, Spanish binder.

Talk about classes and supplies needed for each

Talk about activities done in each class.

Learn about directions.

Talk about the the location of things.

Review verb conjugation.

Unit questions?  What is your class schedule?  What do you do in your classes?  What are your classes like?

Where are your classes located in the school? What is it?

Assessments:  Vocabulary tests, verb conjugation games, speaking activities. Writing assignments
