I began my college coursework at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. My plan was to major in computer science, but, while there, I went to a convention and spent every meeting watching the sign language interpreter. A desire rose up within me to teach hearing impaired children so I transferred to Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. There I received a Bachelor's in Education for the Deaf. I moved to Oklahoma and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State Universtiy in Durant, Oklahoma where I received a degree in Special Education and completed coursework to get Oklahoma certified for Elementary Education. I was an assistant my first year here at Tishomingo Elementary and completed my 29th year of teaching in May of 2014.
I am married to Clay Combes. We have two daughters, Catie and Christina. Both attended Tishomingo Schools. Catie graduated from OU May 2013. Christina is attending Southern Nazarene University.
